From the playing field to the field of life

History

University of Houston Cougars Athletic Alliance (UHCAA) began in 2003 as a vision of former athletes joining to strengthen and enhance the relationship between alumni and students with an emphasis on the student-athlete.

Cougars Athletic Alliance is dedicated to uniting and reuniting Cougars, promoting the legacy of those athletes, bridging transitions for student-athletes, and advancing the interests of the University of Houston and the community. Chartered in the spring of 2004 as a Houston Alumni Organization constituent association, UHCAA has distinguished itself by supporting various Cougar athletic programs and initiatives, providing tailgates for home football games, maintaining significant block seating, and hosting the All-Star Weekend Homecoming activities that produced the return of former athletes, faculty and friends. UHCAA also hosted the Cougar Classic Weekend, a series of events for the UH vs. Grambling football game, featuring a golf tournament, tailgate, and brunch. This was the first time in history that the University of Houston competed against a Historically Black College or University.

In addition to attending sports events and tailgating, UHCAA has established an active presence in the university by participating in such programs as Cougar Advocates of Texas, serving on the Alumni Council and the HAO board. UHCAA's commitment to the community is evidenced by participation in Operation School Supplies, our "Step Up to the Plate" Thanksgiving Food Drive, and Holiday Toy Drive which enable us to generously support local needs.

In an effort to continue to expand our visibility in areas other than athletics, UHCAA awarded its first scholarship in 2007. The recipient is a member of the Challenger Program which is designed to assist students who have the desire to complete a post-secondary education via a variety of programs including tutoring, mentoring and career development. UHCAA is expanding and building a coalition of supporters whose goal is to increase resources for the university and the community through interest, time, energy and sustainable funding.
